Hillary (Condylura cristata)An unwitting but loyal ally to Blue Jay and the sparrows of Briarloch, this unassuming yet marvelous mammal was full of surprises and hidden talents. Star-nosed moles were easily distinguished from other moles by the pink fleshy appendages ringing their snout. These were used to identify food by touch, such as worms, insects and (whilst swimming) crustaceans.
